US passport holders can obtain a free visa on arrival at Jacksons International Airport (POM) in Port Moresby for stays up to 60 days. The visa on arrival is a single-entry tourist visa issued at the immigration counter. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry with at least 2 blank pages. A return or onward ticket and proof of accommodation are required. Bring a printed hotel booking or a letter of invitation if staying with contacts.

ATMs in Port Moresby and major towns dispense kina. Card payments work at hotels and some restaurants in Port Moresby and Lae. Cash is essential outside the two main cities. Public motor vehicles (PMVs) are the local bus system at PGK 1 to PGK 5 per ride in towns.
