Spanish passport holders enter Portugal freely as EU and Schengen citizens. There is no border control on flights or land crossings between Spain and Portugal. A Spanish national ID card or passport is sufficient. No visa or advance paperwork is needed for any length of stay.

If you stay longer than 3 months, register at the local Camara Municipal (town hall) for a Certificado de Registo de Cidadao da UE. The registration costs EUR 15 and requires proof of employment, self-employment, or sufficient funds, plus health insurance. The certificate is issued on the spot. You will also need a NIF (tax number) from the Financas office for renting property, opening a bank account, or signing any contract in Portugal.

Global bus Line 60 connects Las Palmas (Santa Catalina bus station) to LPA in about 25–30 minutes (€2.95). Service is frequent from around 06:00 to midnight. From Maspalomas and the southern resorts, Line 66 runs to the airport in 40–50 minutes (€4.35).Taxis from Las Palmas city center cost €25–35. From Maspalomas: €30–40. The GC-1 motorway runs directly to the airport. Rental cars are the dominant transport mode for island visitors; return desks are in the terminal building.
