Swedish passport holders enter Switzerland freely under the EU-Swiss bilateral agreements on free movement. No visa, no time limit on short stays. Bring your Swedish passport or national ID card (both work). Switzerland is in the Schengen area but not the EU, so flights from Sweden have no passport control on arrival.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the Einwohnerkontrolle (residents' registration office) of your municipality. EU/EFTA citizens with employment receive a B permit (5 years, renewable). Direct flights from Stockholm to Zurich run about 2 hours 20 minutes on Swiss International Air Lines and SAS. Stockholm to Geneva runs about 2 hours 30 minutes on Swiss and easyJet. Switzerland uses the Swiss franc (CHF), trading at roughly 0.93 CHF per SEK 10 or about 10.7 SEK per CHF 1. Card payments work everywhere. No mandatory vaccinations. Swiss trains are punctual and cover the entire country: Zurich to Bern takes 56 minutes (CHF 51 at full price, half with a Halbtax card at CHF 185 per year). Switzerland is one of Europe's most expensive countries: a restaurant meal runs CHF 25 to CHF 50 (SEK 268 to SEK 535), and a beer costs CHF 6 to CHF 8 (SEK 64 to SEK 86).

SBB trains from the airport station (below Check-in 2) to Zurich HB take 10 minutes and run every 10–15 minutes. Long-distance intercity trains to Geneva, Basel, Bern, and Lucerne depart directly from the airport station; Zurich Airport is one of the best-connected airports in Europe for onward rail travel. Taxis queue outside arrivals; fares to the city centre are CHF 55–75.Rental car desks are located in the arrivals area. Swiss customs exit is prompt for EU/Schengen arrivals. The Meet & Greet area is directly adjacent to baggage reclaim.

Temperate continental climate. Winters (November–February) are cold and frequently foggy on the Swiss Plateau; fog (Hochnebel) can persist for days and is the most common cause of delays, with the airport above the fog layer on clearer days but below it on others. Snow does occur but is well managed. Temperatures range from −2 to 5°C.

Summers (June–August) are warm at 22–28°C with afternoon thunderstorms that can be intense but brief. Spring and autumn are mild and variable. Hochnebel fog season (October–January) is the primary operational risk to plan around.
