British passport holders need an eVisitor visa (subclass 651) to enter Australia. The eVisitor is free, processed within 24 hours (most approved in minutes), and allows multiple entries for stays of up to 90 days per visit over a 12-month period. Passport must be valid for the duration of the stay. You must declare any criminal convictions (including spent convictions) on the application, and certain offenses lead to automatic refusal. Bring proof of onward travel and sufficient funds. For longer stays, the Working Holiday visa (subclass 417) is available to UK nationals aged 18 to 35, costs AUD 640 (about $415), and allows 12 months with work rights.

Direct flights from London Heathrow to Sydney or Perth run 22 to 24 hours depending on routing. Perth nonstops on Qantas take about 17 hours. Australia enforces strict biosecurity: food, plant material, wooden items, and dirty shoes get inspected and can be confiscated or fined up to AUD 626 on the spot. No vaccination requirements for UK arrivals, but the Incoming Passenger Card asks about health symptoms and farm contact in the previous 30 days.

Heathrow Express runs from London Paddington to T5 and T2/T3 in 15–21 minutes (£37 single, cheaper booked online or via the Heathrow app). Elizabeth line (Crossrail) is a lower-cost alternative; Paddington to T5 in 34 minutes from £13.50 with an Oyster/contactless cap of £14.90. The Elizabeth line also serves central London stations including Bond Street, Farringdon, and Liverpool Street.London Underground Piccadilly line serves all terminals (T2/T3/T4/T5) from central London in 40–60 minutes (£6 with Oyster). Taxis (black cabs) from central London cost £55–90 depending on traffic. Coach services from Victoria Coach Station (National Express) cost from £10 booked in advance.

Airport Link trains depart every 10 minutes to Central Station (13 min, AUD $20.10 with Opal). The station access fee makes this more expensive than typical Sydney transit. Taxis from International Terminal queue outside arrivals; metered fares to the CBD run AUD $45–65. Uber operates from a designated ride-share zone.Rental car companies have desks in both the international and domestic terminal precincts. A SkyBus operates to the CBD and several suburbs as a cheaper alternative to taxis (AUD $24–27).

Temperate oceanic climate. Summers (December–February) are warm and humid at 24–32°C with afternoon sea breezes and occasional severe thunderstorms that can cause extended ground stops. Winters (June–August) are mild and mostly dry at 8–17°C. Fog on winter mornings occasionally delays operations.

The airport faces its greatest disruption risk from summer thunderstorms and, less commonly, from east-coast lows bringing heavy rain and strong winds in autumn and winter. Pack layers for winter. Summer evenings can be surprisingly cool with sea breezes.
