China uses the renminbi (CNY), trading at roughly 7.25 CNY per $1. Western bank cards work at ATMs and major hotels but many local businesses use WeChat Pay and Alipay exclusively. Both apps now allow linking foreign Visa/Mastercard cards for payment. No vaccination requirements for UK arrivals.

Heathrow Express runs from London Paddington to T5 and T2/T3 in 15–21 minutes (£37 single, cheaper booked online or via the Heathrow app). Elizabeth line (Crossrail) is a lower-cost alternative; Paddington to T5 in 34 minutes from £13.50 with an Oyster/contactless cap of £14.90. Metro Line 6 runs directly from the terminal to the city centre and Changsha South Station (high-speed rail) in about 50 minutes for CNY 8–10. Taxis and DiDi queue outside arrivals; fares to downtown are CNY 80–130. Airport buses serve multiple city zones for CNY 20.Changsha South Station connects to a dense high-speed rail network; Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Beijing are within 3–4 hours. All major rental car brands maintain airport desks.

Humid subtropical climate. Summers (June–August) are hot and very humid at 30–36°C with heavy monsoon rainfall and regular thunderstorms causing delays. Winters (December–February) are cool and damp at 3–10°C. Changsha sees occasional light snow and ice that can disrupt ground operations despite mild temperatures.

Spring is rainy and overcast; autumn (September–October) is the most comfortable season. High humidity is a constant factor from May through September. Pack light, breathable clothing.
