Finnish passport holders can enter China visa-free for up to 15 days under the unilateral visa-free policy China extended to several European countries. This applies to ordinary passports for tourism, business, transit, or visiting family. No advance application needed. Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity from entry. The 15-day count starts from the day after arrival.

For stays longer than 15 days, apply for a Chinese visa at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Helsinki. The single-entry tourist visa (L visa) costs EUR 126 and is valid for 30 days. Processing takes 4 business days for standard service or 2 to 3 days for express (additional EUR 40). Required documents include a completed form, passport photo, flight booking, hotel reservations, and a travel itinerary.

Finnair flies direct from Helsinki to Beijing, Shanghai, and several other Chinese cities. Flight time to Beijing is about 8 hours. China uses the renminbi/yuan (CNY). International cards work at major hotels and some stores, but mobile payment (WeChat Pay, Alipay) dominates daily transactions. Foreign tourists can now link international cards to Alipay for easier payments.

Maglev to Longyang Road (8 min, ¥50) is a fast exit; transfer to Metro Line 2 onward. Metro Line 2 runs directly from PVG T1/T2 to People's Square and Hongqiao Airport (1.5–2 hrs, ¥7). Taxis have a meter; expect ¥130–200 to Puxi (west side) depending on destination and traffic tunnels used.Airport buses serve multiple city zones (¥22–36, 60–90 min). DiDi ride-hail is available and typically cheaper than street taxis for longer distances.
