New York to Luxembourg (JFK–LUX) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

US passport holders enter Luxembourg visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen area. No advance application is needed. No direct flights connect the US to Luxembourg. Route through Frankfurt (about 1 hour to LUX on Luxair), Amsterdam (about 1 hour), or Paris (about 1 hour). Brussels is 3 hours by train, Paris is 2 hours 10 minutes by TGV. Luxembourg made all public transport free nationwide in 2020: buses, trams, and trains are free for everyone, including tourists, in second class throughout the country. No tickets needed. The tram connects the airport to Luxembourg City center in 30 minutes. Luxembourg uses the euro, trading at roughly $1.08 per EUR 1. Card payments work everywhere. Restaurant meals cost EUR 20 to EUR 40 ($22 to $43), reflecting Luxembourg's high-income economy. The country has three official languages: Luxembourgish, French, and German.

The AirTrain connects JFK to the NYC subway and Long Island Rail Road at Jamaica Station (Howard Beach is the other connection point). Subway fare plus AirTrain totals $9.25 from midtown Manhattan; allow 60–75 minutes. LIRR from Penn Station takes 25–30 minutes to Jamaica, then 8–10 minutes on AirTrain; total fare around $10–15 depending on time of day.Taxis from Manhattan to JFK are a flat rate of $70 plus tolls and tip ($85–95 all-in). Ride-shares cost $45–80 depending on traffic and time of day. A dedicated express rail (JFK Connect) has been proposed but does not exist yet.
