Saudi passport holders need a Standard Visitor Visa to enter the UK. Apply online at gov.uk/standard-visitor and attend a biometrics appointment at the VFS Global center in Riyadh or Jeddah. Processing takes 3 to 4 weeks from the biometrics appointment.

Required documents: passport valid for the duration of your stay, completed online form, biometrics (fingerprints and photo at VFS Global), bank statements for the last 6 months, employment letter, and travel itinerary. Each visit can last up to 6 months (180 days). The UK is not part of the Schengen area, so a Schengen visa does not cover the UK and vice versa. Saudi Arabia has a dedicated visa processing lane at VFS Global with Arabic-speaking staff.

Direct flights from Riyadh to London Heathrow run about 6 hours 30 minutes on Saudia and British Airways. Jeddah to London is also served directly. Manchester and Edinburgh connect via London or through Gulf carriers. The UK uses the British pound (GBP), trading at roughly 4.85 SAR per GBP 1. Card payments work everywhere, including contactless on the Tube. No mandatory vaccinations. The Heathrow Express to Paddington takes 15 minutes at GBP 25 (book online for GBP 5.50 off-peak). An Oyster card covers the Tube, buses, and Overground at GBP 2.80 per Zone 1 trip with a daily cap of GBP 8.10. London's Edgware Road and Knightsbridge neighborhoods have extensive Arabic restaurants, shops, and services.

The Haramain High Speed Railway connects JED Airport Station to Jeddah city (King Abdullah Station) in about 15 minutes (SAR 20–25). The same line runs to Mecca and Medina, making it useful for Hajj and Umrah travelers.Taxis from central Jeddah cost SAR 60–100 and take 25–45 minutes. Uber and Careem operate widely and typically run SAR 40–80. Driving yourself is straightforward; the airport is well signed from King Abdulaziz Road and the Ring Road.

Rail from Manchester Airport station (between Terminals 1/2 and 3, connected by free shuttle bus) to Manchester Piccadilly takes 20 minutes (£4.80 off-peak). Metrolink tram is slower (55 min) but cheaper and connects to suburbs not served by rail. Long-distance trains depart directly from the airport station to Liverpool (55 min), Leeds (80 min), and other northern cities.Taxis from arrivals cost £25–40 to the city centre; Uber operates from a designated zone. The Skylink bus connects all three terminals. Rental car desks are in the terminal buildings.

Temperate maritime climate. Among the wettest of any major UK airport. Rain is possible in any month. Manchester averages over 200 rainy days per year. Winters (November–February) are cool and grey at 3–9°C, with occasional fog delaying operations and infrequent but disruptive snow. Summers are mild at 18–24°C with unpredictable showers.

Wind from the west and southwest is the most common operational disruption. Rare but severe winter ice events can cause significant delays. Pack waterproofs year-round. A warm layer is useful even in August.
