Spain is a top destination for Saudi travelers during summer, and the embassy sees high application volumes from June through August.

Direct flights from Riyadh to Madrid run about 6 hours on Saudia. Jeddah to Barcelona runs about 6 hours seasonally. Connecting through Istanbul, London, or Frankfurt opens routes to Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and other coastal cities. Spain uses the euro, trading at roughly 3.95 SAR per EUR 1. Card payments work everywhere. No mandatory vaccinations. Madrid's metro costs EUR 1.50 to EUR 2 per trip on a Multi card. Barcelona's T-casual card gives 10 rides for EUR 11.35. Marbella and the Costa del Sol are popular with Gulf visitors, offering Arabic-speaking concierge services at many hotels. AVE high-speed trains connect Madrid to Barcelona in 2 hours 30 minutes (from EUR 25 booked early).

The Haramain High Speed Railway connects JED Airport Station to Jeddah city (King Abdullah Station) in about 15 minutes (SAR 20–25). The same line runs to Mecca and Medina, making it useful for Hajj and Umrah travelers.Taxis from central Jeddah cost SAR 60–100 and take 25–45 minutes. Uber and Careem operate widely and typically run SAR 40–80. Driving yourself is straightforward; the airport is well signed from King Abdulaziz Road and the Ring Road.

Metro Line 8 from T1/T2/T3 to Nuevos Ministerios takes 12–15 minutes (€6 with airport supplement). T4 travelers take the free inter-terminal shuttle to T2 first. Cercanías C-1 from T4 to Atocha (€2.60, 25 min) is cheaper. Taxis to the city centre have a €30 fixed tariff.

Rental car agencies are at T4. Express Aeropuerto buses run 24 hours to Avenida de América (€5, 25–40 min). Ride-hail apps (Cabify, Uber) typically cost €25–40 depending on destination.

Hot semi-arid climate at 600m altitude. Summers are hot and dry (30–38°C) with almost no rain and very low humidity. Heat rarely disrupts flights but ground crews work in extreme heat. Winters are cold for a southern European capital (1–9°C) with occasional snow. MAD handles light snow well but heavy falls can close runways.

Spring and autumn are pleasant (12–20°C) and offer the most stable weather. Dust storms from the Sahara occasionally reduce visibility in spring. No fog risk comparable to northern European airports.
