Jeddah to Doha (JED–DOH) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Saudi passport holders enter Qatar visa-free for up to 30 days, extendable for another 30 days. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. At Hamad International Airport (DOH), GCC nationals use the dedicated GCC lane at immigration, which moves fast. You receive a stamp and that's it.

Saudi-Qatari border relations normalized in January 2021, and full air, land, and sea links are restored. Saudi nationals can also drive across the Salwa border crossing between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The land crossing is about 100 km from Doha and takes 1 to 2 hours including border formalities. For stays beyond the initial 30+30 days, apply for a residence permit through a Qatari sponsor (employer or family).

Direct flights from Riyadh (RUH) and Jeddah (JED) to Doha run about 1 hour 15 minutes on Saudia and Qatar Airways. Dammam (DMM) to Doha is just 45 minutes, the shortest option. Qatar uses the Qatari riyal (QAR), pegged at 3.64 QAR per $1 and roughly equivalent to the Saudi riyal (3.75 SAR per $1). No mandatory vaccinations. The Doha Metro covers three lines at QAR 2 per standard ride. Taxis from DOH to central Doha cost QAR 40 to QAR 60. Summer highs in both countries exceed 45 degrees Celsius, so the climate will feel familiar.

The Haramain High Speed Railway connects JED Airport Station to Jeddah city (King Abdullah Station) in about 15 minutes (SAR 20–25). The same line runs to Mecca and Medina, making it useful for Hajj and Umrah travelers.Taxis from central Jeddah cost SAR 60–100 and take 25–45 minutes. Uber and Careem operate widely and typically run SAR 40–80. Driving yourself is straightforward; the airport is well signed from King Abdulaziz Road and the Ring Road.

Doha Metro Gold Line departs from inside the terminal to the city centre (15–20 min, QAR 3–6). Msheireb station is the interchange for connecting to the Red and Green lines. First train is at 6am; late-night arrivals will need a taxi or ride-hail. Karwa taxis are available at the arrivals area; West Bay costs QAR 30–50.Careem and Uber are the most cost-effective options. Hamad International has no separate rental car facility visible from arrivals; rental desks are landside. The airport is 15 km from central Doha with good road access via the Corniche and Lusail Expressway.

Desert climate, similar to Dubai. Summers (June–September) are intensely hot (37–45°C) with very high humidity. Ground operations slow but flights rarely cancel for heat alone. Dust haze is persistent and occasionally reduces visibility below instrument minimums. Winter (November–March) is pleasant at 15–26°C and represents Qatar Airways' peak operational period.

Rain is rare, fewer than 10 rainy days per year, but the drainage infrastructure means even light rain causes road flooding. Occasional dust storms (shamal) reduce visibility and can ground departures for hours. Spring (March–May) is the most dust-prone season.
