Saudi passport holders enter China visa-free for up to 30 days under the expanded visa-free policy introduced in 2024. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. At Beijing Capital (PEK), Beijing Daxing (PKX), Shanghai Pudong (PVG), or Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), you go through the standard immigration lane and receive a 30-day entry stamp. This policy covers tourism, business visits, transit, and family visits.
The 30-day visa-free stay cannot be extended, so plan your trip length accordingly. For longer stays, apply for a Chinese visa at the Chinese Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulate in Jeddah before travel ($140 for a single-entry tourist visa, processing 4 to 7 business days). China also offers a 144-hour visa-free transit for travelers transiting through designated cities to a third country, covering Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and others.
Direct flights from Riyadh to Beijing run about 8 hours on Saudia and Air China. Jeddah to Guangzhou runs about 9 hours on China Southern and Saudia. Shanghai, Shenzhen, and other Chinese cities connect through a stop or via Gulf hubs. China uses the Chinese yuan (CNY), trading at roughly 1.94 CNY per SAR 1. WeChat Pay and Alipay dominate payments, but foreign Visa and Mastercard now link to these apps. Cash is accepted at most places. No mandatory vaccinations. Beijing's subway costs CNY 3 to CNY 10 per ride (SAR 1.55 to SAR 5.15), and Shanghai's metro is similar. High-speed rail connects Beijing to Shanghai in 4 hours 30 minutes (CNY 553 second class, about SAR 285).
The Haramain High Speed Railway connects JED Airport Station to Jeddah city (King Abdullah Station) in about 15 minutes (SAR 20–25). The same line runs to Mecca and Medina, making it useful for Hajj and Umrah travelers.Taxis from central Jeddah cost SAR 60–100 and take 25–45 minutes. Uber and Careem operate widely and typically run SAR 40–80. Driving yourself is straightforward; the airport is well signed from King Abdulaziz Road and the Ring Road.
Metro Line 10 from the airport to Jiaochangkou (city centre) takes 35–45 minutes (¥6–8) and runs until around 11pm. Transfers to Lines 1, 2, 3, 6 provide extensive city coverage. Airport buses serve major commercial zones (¥20–30). Taxis use a metered system; the Jiefangbei CBD area costs ¥60–90.DiDi ride-hail is the standard option for most travelers and generally cheaper than street taxis. Chongqing's mountainous terrain means surface travel times vary significantly by destination; the elevated metro is more predictable than road travel during peak hours.
Humid subtropical climate. Chongqing is one of China's "Three Furnaces" for summer heat. Summers are hot and humid (30–38°C, June–September) with frequent rainstorms and thunderstorms that cause delays. The city sits at a river confluence and fog is endemic. Winter and early spring mornings often produce dense fog (2–12°C) that delays or diverts departures.
Overcast skies are the norm for most of the year; Chongqing averages among the fewest sunshine days of any major Chinese city. Autumn (October–November) offers the clearest weather. Pollution combined with fog can produce severe visibility reductions in winter. Pack layers for the dramatic temperature drops that occur with elevation changes in the surrounding mountains.
