You can enter with a national ID card or a passport. At Tirana International Airport (TIA), immigration stamps you in quickly. Albanian and Turkish nationals benefit from a bilateral agreement reflecting the close historical and cultural ties between the two countries.

For stays beyond 90 days in a 180-day window, apply for a residence permit at the Albanian immigration authority in Tirana. Albania is not an EU member and does not use the Schengen visa system, so your entry rules are governed by the bilateral Turkey-Albania agreement rather than EU policy.

Direct flights from Istanbul (IST or SAW) to Tirana run about 1 hour 45 minutes on Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines. Multiple daily departures serve this route year-round. Albania uses the Albanian lek (ALL), trading at roughly 2.6 ALL per TRY 1. Euros are widely accepted in tourist areas and at hotels. ATMs dispense lek in Tirana, Durres, Saranda, and other cities. Card payments work at hotels and larger restaurants. Tirana taxis cost ALL 400 to ALL 700 (TRY 150 to TRY 270) for trips within the city center. The Tirana-Durres highway takes about 35 minutes to reach the coast.

Istanbul Metro M11 Gayrettepe–İstanbul Havalimanı line connects the airport to the broader metro network; from Gayrettepe (Mecidiyeköy/Levent area) the journey is about 35 minutes (₺60–70 with Istanbulkart). The line runs roughly 5am to midnight.Havaist express buses serve Taksim, Kadıköy, and other major hubs (₺50–80, 45–90 minutes depending on traffic). Taxis use a meter; expect ₺400–600 from Taksim or Sultanahmet. The airport is 35km northwest of the city; traffic on the O-7 motorway can be severe during peak hours.
