Turkish passport holders enter Bosnia and Herzegovina visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. No advance application is needed. You can enter with a passport or a Turkish national ID card. At Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ), immigration stamps you in quickly. The bilateral relationship between Turkey and Bosnia means a warm reception at the border.

Bosnia is not an EU member and does not use the Schengen visa system. The 90-day allowance is governed by a bilateral agreement between Turkey and Bosnia. For stays beyond 90 days, register with the local police station (Foreigners Affairs) and apply for a temporary residence permit. Turkish is widely understood in parts of Bosnia due to cultural and historical ties, and Turkish restaurants and cultural centers are common in Sarajevo and Mostar.

Direct flights from Istanbul (IST or SAW) to Sarajevo run about 2 hours on Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines. Multiple weekly departures serve this route year-round with daily service during peak season. Bosnia uses the convertible mark (BAM), pegged to the euro at 1.96 BAM per EUR 1, trading at roughly 0.05 BAM per TRY 1. Card payments work at hotels and larger restaurants. ATMs dispense convertible marks in Sarajevo, Mostar, and Banja Luka. Sarajevo taxis cost BAM 2 to BAM 5 (TRY 40 to TRY 100) for trips within the city. Local food is affordable: a cevapi plate costs BAM 5 to BAM 10 (TRY 100 to TRY 200).

Istanbul Metro M11 Gayrettepe–İstanbul Havalimanı line connects the airport to the broader metro network; from Gayrettepe (Mecidiyeköy/Levent area) the journey is about 35 minutes (₺60–70 with Istanbulkart). The line runs roughly 5am to midnight.Havaist express buses serve Taksim, Kadıköy, and other major hubs (₺50–80, 45–90 minutes depending on traffic). Taxis use a meter; expect ₺400–600 from Taksim or Sultanahmet. The airport is 35km northwest of the city; traffic on the O-7 motorway can be severe during peak hours.
