Turkish passport holders enter Brazil visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. No advance application is needed. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. A return or onward ticket may be requested at immigration. At Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU), Rio de Janeiro Galeao (GIG), or Brasilia (BSB), immigration stamps your passport after a brief document check.

The 90-day stay can be extended once for an additional 90 days at a Federal Police office (Policia Federal) in Brazil. The extension request costs BRL 204 (about TRY 1,300) and must be filed before the initial 90 days expire. After using 180 days in a year, you must wait 180 days before re-entering Brazil. No yellow fever vaccination is required for entry, though yellow fever vaccination applies if traveling to the Amazon region.

Direct flights from Istanbul (IST) to Sao Paulo run about 13 hours on Turkish Airlines. Istanbul to Rio de Janeiro is not nonstop but connects through Sao Paulo or a European hub. Brazil uses the Brazilian real (BRL), trading at roughly 0.16 BRL per TRY 1. Card payments work widely. ATMs (Banco24Horas network) dispense reais and accept international cards. The Sao Paulo Metro costs BRL 5 per ride (about TRY 32). Uber and 99 are the dominant ride-hailing apps across all Brazilian cities, running cheaper than taxis.

Istanbul Metro M11 Gayrettepe–İstanbul Havalimanı line connects the airport to the broader metro network; from Gayrettepe (Mecidiyeköy/Levent area) the journey is about 35 minutes (₺60–70 with Istanbulkart). The line runs roughly 5am to midnight.Havaist express buses serve Taksim, Kadıköy, and other major hubs (₺50–80, 45–90 minutes depending on traffic). Taxis use a meter; expect ₺400–600 from Taksim or Sultanahmet. The airport is 35km northwest of the city; traffic on the O-7 motorway can be severe during peak hours.

Uber and 99 serve the airport at R$50–80 to Ipanema or Copacabana (40–60 min off-peak). Official táxi amarelo (yellow taxi) at the curb: R$80–120. Pre-pay at the taxi counter inside arrivals for a fixed rate option.The Real Auto Ônibus airport bus (R$16) runs to Rodoviária Novo Rio, Cinelândia metro station, and Santos Dumont Airport. BRT Transcarioca (R$4.05) serves Barra da Tijuca. Rental car desks are in the arrivals hall. GIG is 40km from the South Zone; always check traffic before planning ground travel time.

Tropical climate on Guanabara Bay. Summer (December–March) is hot and very wet at 28–37°C with intense afternoon downpours that regularly flood approach roads and occasionally cause airport disruptions. January and February see the highest rainfall and are the most disruption-prone months operationally.

Winter (June–September) is warm and drier at 22–28°C. This is the most operationally stable period. The airport sits on Ilha do Governador. Approach paths are over water, but the surrounding terrain causes occasional windshear on the south runway. Rio's Carnival period (February–March) creates extreme traffic on ground access routes.
