Istanbul to Bogota (IST–BOG) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Turkish passport holders enter Colombia visa-free for up to 90 days. No advance application is needed. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. At Bogota El Dorado (BOG), Medellin Jose Maria Cordova (MDE), or Cartagena Rafael Nunez (CTG), immigration stamps your passport after checking your return or onward ticket. Fill out the online Check-Mig form at apps.migracioncolombia.gov.co within 72 hours before arrival.

The 90-day stay can be extended once for an additional 90 days at a Migracion Colombia office. The extension costs COP 126,800 (about TRY 1,050). Apply before the initial 90 days expire. The total stay cannot exceed 180 days in any 365-day period. Colombia does not require any vaccinations for entry from Turkey, though yellow fever vaccination applies for jungle or rural areas in the Amazon, Choco, or Llanos regions.

No direct flights connect Istanbul to Colombia. Route through Bogota via Madrid (about 10 hours on Avianca or Iberia), Miami (about 3 hours 30 minutes on American or Avianca), or Panama City (about 2 hours). Total travel time from Istanbul runs 16 to 22 hours. Colombia uses the Colombian peso (COP), trading at roughly 115 COP per TRY 1. Card payments work at most restaurants, shops, and supermarkets. ATMs dispense pesos throughout the country. Bogota's TransMilenio bus system costs COP 2,950 per ride (about TRY 26). Medellin's Metro is the only metro system in Colombia at COP 2,950 per ride. Uber, Didi, and InDriver operate in all major Colombian cities.

Istanbul Metro M11 Gayrettepe–İstanbul Havalimanı line connects the airport to the broader metro network; from Gayrettepe (Mecidiyeköy/Levent area) the journey is about 35 minutes (₺60–70 with Istanbulkart). The line runs roughly 5am to midnight.Havaist express buses serve Taksim, Kadıköy, and other major hubs (₺50–80, 45–90 minutes depending on traffic). Taxis use a meter; expect ₺400–600 from Taksim or Sultanahmet. The airport is 35km northwest of the city; traffic on the O-7 motorway can be severe during peak hours.

Official yellow taxis at the curb use a pre-paid voucher system from the booth inside arrivals. Buy a ticket before exiting (COP 25,000–45,000 to most city neighborhoods, roughly $6–11). This eliminates fare negotiation and overcharging risk.Uber operates in a legal grey area in Colombia; InDriver is a common alternative. TransMilenio bus from the airport terminal (COP 3,000) is cheapest but crowded and luggage-unfriendly. Rental car desks are in the arrivals hall. The airport is about 15 km west of the city center via Av. El Dorado.

Bogotá sits at 2,600m elevation. The airport climate is cool and changeable year-round regardless of the tropical latitude. Temperatures at the airport hold between 7–19°C in all months. There is no true summer or winter. Two wet seasons (March–May and September–November) and two drier seasons alternate.

Afternoon thunderstorms during wet seasons can cause delays. Morning fog is the most common disruption risk year-round, due to the Bogotá savanna's topography. Pack a light jacket. The altitude makes evenings noticeably cold even in the warmest months. Acclimatise slowly if arriving from sea level.
