Spain is one of the most requested Schengen visa destinations for Turkish travelers. If Spain is your main destination, apply at the Spanish consulate even if you plan side trips to other Schengen countries. Multi-entry Schengen visas are common for applicants with prior travel history. A multi-entry visa valid for 1 to 5 years eliminates repeat applications for subsequent trips.

Direct flights from Istanbul (IST) to Madrid (MAD) run about 4 hours 15 minutes on Turkish Airlines and Iberia. Istanbul to Barcelona (BCN) runs about 3 hours 30 minutes on Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, and Vueling. Spain uses the euro (EUR), trading at roughly 37 TRY per EUR 1. Card payments work everywhere. The Madrid Metro costs EUR 1.50 to EUR 2.00 per ride. Barcelona's T-casual card gives 10 rides for EUR 11.35. High-speed AVE trains connect Madrid to Barcelona in 2 hours 30 minutes (about EUR 25 to EUR 90 depending on booking time).

Istanbul Metro M11 Gayrettepe–İstanbul Havalimanı line connects the airport to the broader metro network; from Gayrettepe (Mecidiyeköy/Levent area) the journey is about 35 minutes (₺60–70 with Istanbulkart). The line runs roughly 5am to midnight.Havaist express buses serve Taksim, Kadıköy, and other major hubs (₺50–80, 45–90 minutes depending on traffic). Taxis use a meter; expect ₺400–600 from Taksim or Sultanahmet. The airport is 35km northwest of the city; traffic on the O-7 motorway can be severe during peak hours.

The C-1 Cercanías train to Málaga Centro-Alameda costs €1.80 and takes 12 minutes. Platforms in Terminal 3 are accessible via the connecting corridor. Run every 20–30 minutes.Taxis to Málaga center: €15–20. To Marbella: €60–80 (45–60 min). To Torremolinos or Benalmádena: €15–25. Rental car desks are in the arrivals hall; the N-340 coastal road provides good access to resort towns.

Mediterranean climate. One of the sunniest airports in Europe. Summers (June–September) are hot and dry at 28–36°C; virtually no rain and minimal disruption risk. Winters are mild at 10–18°C with occasional rain, rarely causing serious delays.

The Levante (easterly wind) can cause turbulence on approach, particularly in autumn. November through January sees the most rainfall. The airport handles heavy seasonal traffic peaks in July and August. Arrive early for check-in during summer.
