No nonstop flights connect the US mainland to the BVI. Route through San Juan, Puerto Rico (about 35 minutes to EIS on Cape Air or InterCaribbean), St Thomas in the USVI (then a 30 to 45 minute ferry from Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook to Road Town, Tortola), or Antigua. The ferry from St Thomas is the most popular entry point: Road Town Fast Ferry and Native Son run frequent service for $30 to $55 one way. The BVI uses the US dollar as its official currency. Card payments work at resorts and restaurants. ATMs are available in Road Town and Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda. Taxi rates are fixed and posted at the ferry docks and airport: EIS airport to Road Town costs $27 for one passenger.
WMATA Silver Line Metro now reaches Dulles directly; take Silver Line to Washington Dulles Airport station (about 65 min from Metro Center, ~$7). The connection opened in late 2022.Ride-shares from downtown DC run $35–60 and take 35–50 minutes via I-66 (longer during peak hours). Washington Flyer coach to Wiehle-Reston East Metro costs $6. The airport is 27 miles from downtown; taxis are expensive ($60–80).
