Japanese passport holders need a NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) before flying. Apply at nzeta.immigration.govt.nz or through the NZeTA app. The fee is NZD 17 via the app or NZD 23 via the website, plus a mandatory International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) of NZD 100. Processing takes up to 72 hours but is often approved within minutes. The NZeTA is valid for 2 years with multiple entries, each stay up to 90 days.

Fill out the NZeTA before booking flights since airlines check authorization at check-in. You need a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from New Zealand, a return or onward ticket, and evidence of NZD 1,000 per month of stay (or NZD 400 per month if accommodation is prepaid). New Zealand takes biosecurity seriously. Declare all food, plant material, and outdoor gear on your arrival card or face fines of NZD 400.

Direct flights from Tokyo Narita to Auckland (AKL) run about 10 hours 30 minutes on Air New Zealand and ANA. No direct service to other NZ cities from Japan. Connections through Sydney, Melbourne, or Singapore reach Christchurch (CHC) and Queenstown (ZQN). New Zealand uses the New Zealand dollar (NZD), trading at roughly 0.55 NZD per 100 JPY. No mandatory vaccinations. InterCity buses connect most towns, and a Flexipass gives 15 to 60 hours of travel for NZD 159 to NZD 519.

Keikyu Line from Shinagawa reaches Haneda in 13 minutes (¥310). Tokyo Monorail from Hamamatsucho takes 15–22 minutes (¥500). Both run frequently from 5am to midnight. Haneda's central location makes it by far the most convenient Tokyo airport.Taxis from central Tokyo cost ¥3,500–5,500 depending on destination and traffic. Limousine buses serve major hotels and stations (¥600–1,100). Ride-shares (GO, S.RIDE) are growing in Japan. The airport is 14km from central Tokyo, significantly closer than Narita.
