Swedish passport holders enter Bosnia and Herzegovina visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of entry. A Swedish national ID card also works for entry. At Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ), immigration is quick and you receive a stamp.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is not in the EU or Schengen area, so time here does not count against your Schengen 90-day limit. Foreign visitors must register with the local police within 48 hours of arrival. Hotels and hostels do this automatically. If staying in private accommodation, your host should register you at the nearest police station. For stays beyond 90 days, apply for a temporary residence permit at the Service for Foreigners' Affairs.

No direct flights connect Stockholm to Sarajevo. Route through Vienna (1 hour 10 minutes to Sarajevo on Austrian), Istanbul (2 hours on Turkish Airlines), or Munich (1 hour 40 minutes on Eurowings). Total travel time from Stockholm runs 4 to 7 hours. Bosnia uses the convertible mark (BAM), pegged at 1.96 BAM per EUR 1 or about 0.19 BAM per SEK 1. Euros are accepted at some hotels and larger restaurants, but marks are the standard. ATMs are widespread in cities. No mandatory vaccinations. Sarajevo's tram network costs BAM 1.80 per ride (about SEK 9.50). Bosnia is affordable: a restaurant meal runs BAM 15 to BAM 30 (SEK 79 to SEK 158), and a local beer costs BAM 3 to BAM 5 (SEK 16 to SEK 26).
