Japanese passport holders enter Israel visa-free for up to 90 days. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. Israel does not stamp passports; instead, you receive a small blue entry card (Form B/2) at immigration. Keep this card with your passport at all times, as hotels and checkpoints may ask for it.

Security screening at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) is thorough. Expect questions about your travel purpose, contacts in Israel, and previous visits to the region. Answering calmly and directly speeds the process. If your passport contains stamps from certain countries (Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq), expect extended questioning but entry is not automatically denied. For stays beyond 90 days, apply for an extension at a Population and Immigration Authority office before expiry.

No direct flights connect Japan to Israel. Route through Istanbul (Turkish Airlines, 13 to 15 hours total), Dubai (Emirates), or Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific). Israel uses the Israeli new shekel (ILS), trading at roughly 3.6 ILS per $1 or roughly 22 JPY per ILS. ATMs and card payments are standard everywhere. No mandatory vaccinations. Israel observes Shabbat from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset, during which public transit in most cities stops entirely (Haifa is an exception). Jerusalem's light rail runs during Shabbat. Ben Gurion Airport operates 24/7, but reaching it on Shabbat requires a taxi or pre-arranged shuttle.
