German passport holders enter South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days. Your passport must have at least 30 days of validity beyond your departure date and at least 2 blank pages. South Africa is strict about the blank pages rule. Airlines check before boarding and will deny you if the pages are not there.

You receive a visitor permit stamp on arrival. No advance application needed. Immigration may ask for a return ticket and proof of funds. If you plan to visit neighboring countries and return, request a multiple-entry stamp. Otherwise you get single entry by default.

If traveling with children under 18, South Africa requires an unabridged birth certificate showing both parents. If one parent is not traveling, you need a consent letter from the absent parent. These rules are enforced inconsistently but having the documents avoids problems at the border.

S-Bahn lines S8 and S9 run from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main station) to Terminal 1 every 15 minutes (15 min, €5.65 single or included in a Frankfurt day ticket). ICE and IC long-distance trains serve the airport's own long-distance station (Fernbahnhof); this is separate from the S-Bahn Regional station and connects Frankfurt to Cologne, Stuttgart, Munich, and other cities without requiring travel through the city centre.Taxis from the city centre cost €25–35 and take 15–25 minutes. Terminal 2 connects to Terminal 1 via the free SkyLine people mover.
