Dublin to Riga (DUB–RIX) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Irish passport holders enter Latvia visa-free for unlimited stays as EU citizens. No fee, no advance application. A valid Irish passport is required. Ireland is not in the Schengen Area, so passport control applies on arrival, but EU citizens pass through quickly.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) to obtain an EU citizen registration certificate. The fee is EUR 4.27. Bring proof of employment, self-employment, studies, or sufficient resources plus health insurance. A Latvian personal code (personas kods) is issued upon registration and is required for banking, healthcare, and contracts.

Direct flights from Dublin to Riga run about 3 hours 10 minutes on Ryanair. Latvia uses the euro (adopted 2014), so no currency exchange needed. No vaccination requirements. Riga has a well-connected tram and bus system, with single rides costing EUR 1.15 via the Rigas Satiksme e-ticket system or EUR 2 cash from the driver. English is spoken widely in Riga, less so outside the capital. Latvian tap water is safe. Irish driving licenses are valid throughout the stay.

Dublin Bus route 747 (Airlink) runs from the city centre (O'Connell Street) to the airport in 30–50 minutes, costing €7 one-way or €12 return. DART rail does not serve the airport directly; the nearest station requires a bus connection. Ride-shares from the city centre typically cost €20–35 depending on traffic.

The M50 and M1 motorways feed into the airport; short-term parking in Terminal 1 or 2 costs from €4/30 min, while long-stay lots (P3/P4) are significantly cheaper for multi-day trips. Allow extra time during morning and evening rush hours on the M50.
