Dublin to Dubai (DUB–DXB) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Irish passport holders enter the UAE visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the entry date. A free entry stamp is issued at immigration. The 90-day allowance replaced the previous 30-day limit in 2024.

No supporting documents are required beyond the passport, though having a return ticket and hotel booking avoids potential questions. For employment, a separate work visa sponsored by a UAE employer is required. Tourist visa extensions are possible through the ICP (Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship) for AED 1,000 (about $272) for an additional 30 days.

Direct flights from Dublin to Dubai run about 7 hours on Emirates. Etihad connects Dublin to Abu Dhabi at similar duration. The UAE uses the dirham (AED), pegged at 3.6725 AED per $1. Card payments work everywhere. No mandatory vaccinations. Alcohol is legal in licensed venues (hotels, bars, restaurants with a liquor license). Drinking in public or being visibly intoxicated in public is illegal. During Ramadan, eating, drinking, and smoking in public during daylight hours is prohibited for all visitors. Temperatures from June to September average 40 to 45 degrees Celsius.

Dublin Bus route 747 (Airlink) runs from the city centre (O'Connell Street) to the airport in 30–50 minutes, costing €7 one-way or €12 return. DART rail does not serve the airport directly; the nearest station requires a bus connection. Ride-shares from the city centre typically cost €20–35 depending on traffic.

The M50 and M1 motorways feed into the airport; short-term parking in Terminal 1 or 2 costs from €4/30 min, while long-stay lots (P3/P4) are significantly cheaper for multi-day trips. Allow extra time during morning and evening rush hours on the M50.

Metro Red Line from T1 (Airport Terminal 1 station) or T3 (Airport Terminal 3 station) to central Dubai. BurJuman: 20 min; Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa: 23 min. Fare is AED 6.50–10. Metro runs from 5:30am; early morning arrivals may need to wait. T2 is not served by metro; RTA buses run to Al Ghubaiba (Bus 402) for AED 3.Taxis from DXB to Downtown Dubai cost AED 35–55 (airport taxi surcharge applies). Careem and Uber operate from designated zones. Ride-hails must be booked via app; street hailing is not permitted in terminal areas.

Desert climate, hot, dry, and sunny virtually year-round. Summers (June–September) are extreme: 38–48°C with high humidity near the coast. Heat stress slows ground operations but rarely causes weather cancellations. Winter (December–February) is DXB's peak season at 18–28°C with minimal rain and near-constant sunshine.

Occasional sandstorms (haboob) reduce visibility sharply and can ground flights for hours, most likely in spring (April–May) and summer. Light rain falls in winter and can cause road flooding on Dubai's drainage-limited road network. A light jacket is sufficient for winter evenings.
