Doha to Al-Ula (DOH–ULH) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Qatari passport holders enter Saudi Arabia visa-free as GCC nationals. No fee, no advance application, no time limit on stays. National ID cards are also accepted at immigration. At Jeddah (JED), Riyadh (RUH), or Dammam (DMM), GCC nationals use the dedicated fast-track lanes and are processed in minutes. The land border at Salwa/Abu Samra is also open, with drive times from Doha to Dammam running about 5 hours.

GCC citizens can live, work, and own property in Saudi Arabia under the GCC common market framework. No work permit or residence visa is needed. Business registration follows standard Saudi commercial law. Qatari-registered vehicles can cross the land border with valid registration and insurance documents. Diplomatic relations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia were fully restored in January 2021 under the Al-Ula Declaration, and travel between the two countries is unrestricted.

Direct flights from Doha to Riyadh run about 1 hour 15 minutes on Qatar Airways and Saudia. Doha to Jeddah runs about 2 hours 15 minutes. Multiple daily frequencies on both routes. Saudi Arabia uses the Saudi riyal (SAR), pegged at 3.75 SAR per $1 and roughly on par with the Qatari riyal (QAR 1 equals about SAR 1.03). Card payments work everywhere. No mandatory vaccinations for regular entry, but meningitis (ACWY) vaccination is required for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Uber and Careem operate in all major Saudi cities.

Doha Metro Gold Line connects the city center directly to Hamad International; the Hamad International Airport station is at the terminal (15–20 min from Al Bidda / West Bay area, QAR 3–6). Metro runs 6am–11pm Sunday–Wednesday, until midnight Thursday, and 2pm–1am Friday. The Gold Line also connects to the Red and Green lines at Msheireb station for wider coverage.Taxis from West Bay / downtown Doha cost QAR 30–50 and take 15–25 minutes. Karwa taxis are metered and more regulated than informal options. Ride-hail apps (Careem, Uber) operate widely in Doha.
