Standard processing takes 3 weeks (15 working days). Priority service (5 working days) costs an additional GBP 500, and super priority (next working day, available at select centres) costs GBP 1,000. A 2-year multiple-entry visa is GBP 400, 5-year is GBP 771, and 10-year is GBP 963.

Required documents include a valid passport, digital passport photo, proof of funds (bank statements for 6 months showing enough to cover the stay, roughly GBP 100 per day), confirmed accommodation, return flight booking, employment letter with salary details, income tax returns, and a cover letter explaining the visit. Self-employed applicants need business registration, tax filings, and client contracts. Strong ties to India (property, family, employment) reduce refusal risk. The UK is not part of the Schengen Area, so a Schengen visa does not cover UK entry.

Direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to London Heathrow run 8 hours 30 minutes to 9 hours 30 minutes on Air India, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kochi connect via nonstop or one-stop routes. The UK uses the British pound (GBP). No mandatory vaccinations. The Heathrow Express to Paddington Station takes 15 minutes for GBP 25 (book online for cheaper advance fares). The Elizabeth Line from Heathrow to central London costs GBP 12.80 (peak) or GBP 11.20 (off-peak) with Oyster/contactless. UK immigration uses eGates for ePassport holders from select countries, but Indian passports go through staffed desks.

Delhi Metro Airport Express runs from New Delhi Railway Station to T3 in 18–20 minutes (₹60 one-way). From Shivaji Stadium (central Delhi) it takes 24 minutes. The line has four stations: New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, and IGI Airport (T3). T1 (domestic) is not directly served; take the metro to T3 and the free airport bus shuttle to T1.Prepaid taxis from the terminal use a metered system with fixed rates; central Delhi costs ₹400–600. Ola and Uber operate widely and are often cheaper. Auto-rickshaws are not permitted on the expressway.

The Gatwick Express departs the South Terminal every 15 minutes to London Victoria (30 min, from £21.50). Thameslink services are cheaper and provide direct access to Farringdon, City Thameslink, Blackfriars, and London Bridge; useful for destinations in the City and East London. Both terminal buildings are connected by a free inter-terminal monorail shuttle (2 min).Taxis from arrivals queue outside; metered fares to central London typically run £70–100 and can exceed this during peak hours. Uber and other ride-shares operate from a designated zone. Rental car desks are in both terminal buildings.

Temperate maritime climate. Winters (November–February) are cool and grey at 3–9°C, with fog, low cloud, and occasional light snow causing moderate delay risks. Summers (June–August) are mild at 18–25°C. Heat waves are increasingly common and can affect ramp operations. Rain falls year-round with no dry season.

Wind is a more frequent disruption factor than snow at Gatwick. The airport has a single active runway and is sensitive to crosswinds. Autumn storms (October–November) occasionally cause significant delays.
