US passport holders can obtain a free visa on arrival at Jacksons International Airport (POM) in Port Moresby for stays up to 60 days. ATMs in Port Moresby and major towns dispense kina. Card payments work at hotels and some restaurants in Port Moresby and Lae. Cash is essential outside the two main cities. Domestic flights on Air Niugini and PNG Air connect 20+ airstrips across the country: Port Moresby to Mount Hagen costs PGK 500 to PGK 1,200 ($130 to $310) one way. Public motor vehicles (PMVs) are the local bus system at PGK 1 to PGK 5 per ride in towns.
