Virgin Gorda is known for The Baths, a beach of house-sized granite boulders forming grottos and tidal pools. Jost Van Dyke is home to the Soggy Dollar Bar at White Bay. The BVI is one of the world's top sailing destinations: the Sir Francis Drake Channel between the islands provides protected waters and steady trade winds. Bareboat and crewed charter companies operate from Road Town and Nanny Cay on Tortola.
No nonstop flights connect the US mainland to the BVI. Route through San Juan, Puerto Rico (about 35 minutes to EIS on Cape Air or InterCaribbean), St Thomas in the USVI (then a 30 to 45 minute ferry from Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook to Road Town, Tortola), or Antigua. The ferry from St Thomas is the most popular entry point: Road Town Fast Ferry and Native Son run frequent service for $30 to $55 one way. The BVI uses the US dollar as its official currency. Card payments work at resorts and restaurants. ATMs are available in Road Town and Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda. Taxi rates are fixed and posted at the ferry docks and airport: EIS airport to Road Town costs $27 for one passenger.
There is no rail link to CLT. CATS Route 5 bus runs from Charlotte Transportation Center to the airport in 45 minutes ($2.20). The airport is 7 miles from Uptown Charlotte.Ride-shares from Uptown cost $18–30 and take 15–25 minutes. Taxis are available but less common than ride-share in Charlotte. I-85 and Billy Graham Parkway are the primary expressway routes; allow extra time during afternoon rush (4–6:30pm).
