The 90-day stay can be extended at the Direccion General de Migraciones in Asuncion. Paraguay is a Mercosur member, and crossing into Argentina or Brazil from border cities is common. Ciudad del Este sits across the Friendship Bridge from Foz do Iguacu, Brazil, and Encarnacion connects to Posadas, Argentina, by bridge. Both crossings require clearing immigration on each side.

No direct flights connect the US to Paraguay. Asuncion's Costanera riverside promenade and the Jesuit missions of Trinidad and Jesus (UNESCO sites near Encarnacion) are the standout destinations.
