Hungarian passport holders enter Lithuania freely as EU and Schengen citizens. No visa, no fee, no time limit on stays. A valid Hungarian national ID card or passport is sufficient. Both countries are in the Schengen Area, so flights between them have no border control.

For stays beyond 3 months, register your place of residence at the local municipality (seniuna) within 7 working days. EU citizens must also register with the Migration Department to receive a right of temporary residence certificate, which is free. Bring proof of employment, self-employment, studies, or sufficient resources plus health insurance. A personal code (asmens kodas) is issued upon registration and is needed for banking, healthcare, and contracts.

Direct flights from Budapest to Vilnius run about 2 hours on Wizz Air and Ryanair. Lithuania uses the euro (adopted 2015). No vaccination requirements. English is widely spoken in Vilnius, especially among younger Lithuanians. Lithuanian pharmacies stock most European medications. Hungarian driving licenses are valid throughout the stay. Vilnius has an efficient and cheap public bus network (EUR 1 per ride with an electronic card, EUR 1.50 cash on board).
