Budapest to Manchester, Greater Manchester (BUD–MAN) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Hungarian passport holders enter the United Kingdom visa-free for up to 6 months as tourists or visitors. No fee, no advance application. A valid passport is required; national ID cards are no longer accepted for entry since October 2021 (post-Brexit). Passport must be valid for the duration of the stay.

At the UK border, you may be asked about the purpose of your visit, accommodation plans, return ticket, and sufficient funds (no fixed minimum). You cannot work on a visitor visa. For employment, a sponsored work visa is needed (Health and Care Worker visa, Skilled Worker visa, etc.), each with its own fee and requirements. The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, expanding to EU nationals, may require a pre-travel application (GBP 10) starting in 2025 to 2026. Check gov.uk for the latest rollout dates.

Direct flights from Budapest to London run about 2 hours 30 minutes on Wizz Air and Ryanair (Luton, Stansted, Gatwick). The UK uses the British pound (GBP), trading at roughly 0.86 GBP per EUR 1. No vaccination requirements. Bringing food products of animal origin (meat, dairy) from the EU into the UK is prohibited. The UK does not use the metric system for road distances (miles, not kilometers).

Rail from Manchester Airport station (between Terminals 1/2 and 3, connected by free shuttle bus) to Manchester Piccadilly takes 20 minutes (£4.80 off-peak). Metrolink tram is slower (55 min) but cheaper and connects to suburbs not served by rail. Long-distance trains depart directly from the airport station to Liverpool (55 min), Leeds (80 min), and other northern cities.Taxis from arrivals cost £25–40 to the city centre; Uber operates from a designated zone. The Skylink bus connects all three terminals. Rental car desks are in the terminal buildings.

Temperate maritime climate. Among the wettest of any major UK airport. Rain is possible in any month. Manchester averages over 200 rainy days per year. Winters (November–February) are cool and grey at 3–9°C, with occasional fog delaying operations and infrequent but disruptive snow. Summers are mild at 18–24°C with unpredictable showers.

Wind from the west and southwest is the most common operational disruption. Rare but severe winter ice events can cause significant delays. Pack waterproofs year-round. A warm layer is useful even in August.
