Hungarian passport holders enter Spain freely as EU and Schengen citizens. No visa, no fee, no time limit on stays. A valid Hungarian national ID card or passport is sufficient. Both countries are in the Schengen Area, so flights between them operate as domestic travel with no border control.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the Oficina de Extranjeria or local police station to obtain the Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Union (green card/certificate). The fee is EUR 12. Bring your passport or ID card, proof of employment or self-employment (contract, Social Security registration), or proof of sufficient funds (no fixed amount, but roughly EUR 600 per month per person) plus health insurance. Direct flights from Budapest to Barcelona run about 2 hours 40 minutes on Wizz Air and Ryanair. Budapest to Madrid is about 3 hours 10 minutes. Low-cost carriers serve Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Alicante seasonally. Spain uses the euro. No vaccination requirements. Hungarian driving licenses are valid for the first 6 months of residence; after that, exchange through the DGT is required.
