Budapest to Faro (BUD–FAO) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Hungarian passport holders enter Portugal freely as EU and Schengen citizens. No visa, no fee, no time limit on stays. A valid Hungarian national ID card or passport is sufficient. Both countries are in the Schengen Area, so flights between them have no border control.

For stays beyond 3 months, register at the local Camara Municipal (town hall) and obtain a Certificado de Registo de Cidadao da UE from SEF (Servico de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras) or its successor agency AIMA. The fee is EUR 15. Bring proof of employment, self-employment, or sufficient resources plus health insurance. A NIF (Numero de Identificacao Fiscal) from the Financas office is needed for any contract, bank account, or rental agreement. You can get a NIF in person or appoint a fiscal representative.

Direct flights from Budapest to Lisbon run about 3 hours 30 minutes on Wizz Air and Ryanair. Budapest to Porto is about 3 hours 40 minutes. Seasonal routes serve Faro (Algarve). Portugal uses the euro. No vaccination requirements. Portuguese pharmacies are well-stocked and pharmacists can dispense some medications without a prescription that require one in Hungary. Hungarian driving licenses are valid; no exchange needed for EU citizens.
