Boston to Spanish Town (BOS–VIJ) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

US passport holders enter the British Virgin Islands visa-free for up to 30 days, extendable to 90 days. No advance application is needed. The BVI is a British Overseas Territory. Passport must be valid for the duration of the stay. A return or onward ticket is required. Most visitors arrive by ferry from the US Virgin Islands or by small aircraft at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) on Beef Island, connected to Tortola by a short bridge.

The BVI comprises 60 islands and cays, 16 of which are inhabited. Tortola is the largest and most populated. Virgin Gorda is known for The Baths, a beach of house-sized granite boulders forming grottos and tidal pools. Jost Van Dyke is home to the Soggy Dollar Bar at White Bay. The BVI is one of the world's top sailing destinations: the Sir Francis Drake Channel between the islands provides protected waters and steady trade winds. Bareboat and crewed charter companies operate from Road Town and Nanny Cay on Tortola.

No nonstop flights connect the US mainland to the BVI. Route through San Juan, Puerto Rico (about 35 minutes to EIS on Cape Air or InterCaribbean), St Thomas in the USVI (then a 30 to 45 minute ferry from Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook to Road Town, Tortola), or Antigua. The ferry from St Thomas is the most popular entry point: Road Town Fast Ferry and Native Son run frequent service for $30 to $55 one way. The BVI uses the US dollar as its official currency. Card payments work at resorts and restaurants. ATMs are available in Road Town and Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda. Taxi rates are fixed and posted at the ferry docks and airport: EIS airport to Road Town costs $27 for one passenger.

MBTA Silver Line SL1 bus runs from South Station (Red Line, Amtrak) through the Ted Williams Tunnel to all Logan terminals; free from the airport, $2.40 inbound. Journey from South Station takes 15–20 minutes depending on traffic. The Blue Line Aquarium station connects to a free water taxi ($12) across the harbor to Logan; scenic but weather-dependent.Taxis from downtown Boston cost $30–45 with the Ted Williams Tunnel toll included. Ride-hails are comparable. The Sumner and Ted Williams tunnels both serve the airport; check traffic before departing, as both frequently back up. Logan is only 3 miles from downtown but tunnel congestion often extends that to 30+ minutes.
