US passport holders enter Paraguay visa-free for up to 90 days. No advance application is needed. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. At Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU) in Asuncion, immigration stamps your passport after reviewing your return or onward ticket.

The 90-day stay can be extended at the Direccion General de Migraciones in Asuncion. Paraguay is a Mercosur member, and crossing into Argentina or Brazil from border cities is common. Ciudad del Este sits across the Friendship Bridge from Foz do Iguacu, Brazil, and Encarnacion connects to Posadas, Argentina, by bridge. Both crossings require clearing immigration on each side.

No direct flights connect the US to Paraguay. Route through Lima (about 4 hours to ASU on LATAM), Sao Paulo (about 2 hours on LATAM or Amaszonas), Buenos Aires (about 1 hour 45 minutes on Aerolineas Argentinas), or Panama City (about 5 hours 30 minutes on Copa). Total travel time from the US East Coast runs 12 to 18 hours. Paraguay uses the Paraguayan guarani (PYG), trading at roughly 7,500 PYG per $1. US dollars are accepted at hotels, exchange houses, and larger shops. ATMs are common in Asuncion and Ciudad del Este. Card payments work at malls and restaurants. Local buses in Asuncion cost PYG 2,800 ($0.37) per ride. Asuncion's Costanera riverside promenade and the Jesuit missions of Trinidad and Jesus (UNESCO sites near Encarnacion) are the standout destinations.

No rail connection exists. WeGo bus Route 18 runs from downtown Nashville to BNA in 30–40 minutes (fare $2, transfers free with transfer slip) but service ends in the early evening. Not suitable for early-morning or late-night flights.

Ride-shares (Uber/Lyft) from downtown cost $20–30 and take 15–25 minutes depending on traffic on I-40. Taxis run $25–35. Short-term parking is $3/20 minutes; economy lots cost $7–10/day with free shuttle.
