At immigration in Tashkent (TAS), Samarkand, or Bukhara, you receive a passport stamp. Registration is handled automatically by hotels, which register you with OVIR (the registration office) at check-in. If staying in a private home, your host must register you within 3 days at the local migration office. Keep all registration slips until departure, as immigration may ask for them when you leave.

No direct flights connect Malaysia to Uzbekistan. Route through Istanbul (3 hours 30 minutes to Tashkent on Turkish Airlines or Uzbekistan Airways), Seoul, or Dubai. Total travel time from Kuala Lumpur runs 10 to 14 hours. Uzbekistan uses the Uzbekistani som (UZS), trading at roughly 2,700 UZS per MYR 1 or 12,800 UZS per $1. ATMs are available in Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara, but carry USD cash as backup for smaller cities. Visa and Mastercard acceptance has expanded rapidly since 2019. No mandatory vaccinations. The Tashkent metro costs UZS 1,800 (about $0.14) per ride and is worth visiting just for the ornate Soviet-era station designs.
