Road travel runs long in traffic; the metro avoids that.Taxis from the airport to the city centre cost ¥60–90 and should use the meter. Airport express coaches run to major hotels (¥25–30). Car rental is available at the airport. Kunming is a major domestic hub for Yunnan province; many travelers use it as a gateway to Southeast Asian destinations.
Kunming sits at 1,895m elevation and has one of China's most temperate climates. Nicknamed the "Spring City." Year-round temperatures are mild (8–25°C) and rarely extreme.
Wet season (June–October) brings afternoon monsoon showers, which can cause delays but rarely severe disruptions. The airport's high elevation means thinner air affects aircraft performance in summer heat. Winter (December–February) is dry and sunny. Fog is uncommon.
