Spata-Artemida to Dubai (ATH–DXB) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Greek passport holders receive a free visa on arrival in the UAE, valid for 30 days with a single 10-day extension available (AED 600, about $165). Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. No advance application, no fee, no photos needed at the border. Processing is automatic at the e-gate if you have a biometric passport.

You need a return or onward ticket. Immigration officers rarely ask for hotel bookings but technically can. For stays beyond 40 days, apply for a tourist visa extension through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) or via the ICP smart services portal before the initial 30 days expire. As an EU/Schengen passport holder, the process is frictionless.

Direct flights from Athens (ATH) to Dubai (DXB) run about 4 hours 30 minutes on Emirates, flydubai, and Aegean Airlines. Abu Dhabi (AUH) is served via Gulf Air or Etihad with connections. The UAE dirham is pegged to the US dollar at 3.6725 AED per $1. No vaccination requirements for arrivals from Greece. Alcohol is legal in licensed venues in Dubai and Abu Dhabi but public intoxication carries criminal penalties. Import of codeine-based medications requires a UAE Ministry of Health e-permit obtained before travel.

Metro Line 3 (blue line) connects Monastiraki and Syntagma stations in central Athens to the airport in 40 minutes for €10 one-way (€18 return, valid 48 hours). Trains run every 30 minutes from roughly 05:30 to midnight. Suburban rail (Proastiakos) also serves the airport, useful from Piraeus and the northern suburbs.

Express buses (X93 to Kifissos Bus Terminal, X95 to Syntagma, X96 to Piraeus) run 24/7 for €6.20 and take 60–90 minutes depending on traffic. Taxis from the city centre are metered with a flat rate of €40 (day) or €55 (night/holidays) from the airport to downtown. Ride-shares are limited; metered taxis are the standard option.

Metro Red Line from T1 (Airport Terminal 1 station) or T3 (Airport Terminal 3 station) to central Dubai. BurJuman: 20 min; Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa: 23 min. Fare is AED 6.50–10. Metro runs from 5:30am; early morning arrivals may need to wait. T2 is not served by metro; RTA buses run to Al Ghubaiba (Bus 402) for AED 3.Taxis from DXB to Downtown Dubai cost AED 35–55 (airport taxi surcharge applies). Careem and Uber operate from designated zones. Ride-hails must be booked via app; street hailing is not permitted in terminal areas.

Desert climate, hot, dry, and sunny virtually year-round. Summers (June–September) are extreme: 38–48°C with high humidity near the coast. Heat stress slows ground operations but rarely causes weather cancellations. Winter (December–February) is DXB's peak season at 18–28°C with minimal rain and near-constant sunshine.

Occasional sandstorms (haboob) reduce visibility sharply and can ground flights for hours, most likely in spring (April–May) and summer. Light rain falls in winter and can cause road flooding on Dubai's drainage-limited road network. A light jacket is sufficient for winter evenings.
