Swedish passport holders enter the UAE visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. No fee, no advance application. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. At Dubai International (DXB) or Abu Dhabi (AUH), EU passport holders can use the smart gates for automated entry. The whole process takes a few minutes.

The 90-day visa-free period replaced the older 30-day scheme for EU nationals in 2023. No return ticket is formally required, but airlines may verify before boarding. For stays beyond 90 days, a residence visa is needed through an employer, freelancer program, or investor visa. The UAE has no income tax, which attracts a growing Swedish expat community, particularly in Dubai. Sweden and the UAE have a bilateral investment treaty and a double taxation agreement.

Direct flights from Stockholm Arlanda to Dubai run about 6 hours on Emirates, flydubai, and SAS (seasonal). Stockholm to Abu Dhabi runs about 6 hours 30 minutes on Etihad (seasonal) and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. The UAE uses the UAE dirham (AED), pegged at 3.67 AED per $1 or roughly 0.35 AED per SEK 1. Card payments work everywhere. No mandatory vaccinations. The Dubai Metro Red and Green lines cost AED 3 to AED 8.50 per trip using a Nol card (AED 25 for silver, including AED 19 credit). Abu Dhabi buses cost AED 2 per ride on a Hafilat card. Winter temperatures (November to March) run 20 to 28 degrees Celsius, making that the peak season for Swedish visitors.

The Arlanda Express train runs non-stop from Stockholm Central Station to ARN in 18 minutes (SEK 280–320 one-way, cheaper booked online). The Pendeltåg (commuter rail) stops at Arlanda South/North stations for SEK 145 total (including a SEK 120 airport supplement); the journey takes 40 minutes.Taxis from central Stockholm cost SEK 600–800 (45–60 min). Uber runs SEK 400–600. The E4 motorway connects the airport to the city; traffic can be heavy southbound during afternoon rush. Driving takes 35–50 minutes in normal conditions.

Careem and Uber serve the airport at AED 45–70 to downtown Abu Dhabi (25–40 min). Official taxis at the curb: AED 50–80. Bus E101 to Central Bus Station costs AED 4 and takes 45 minutes but runs infrequently; verify schedule before relying on it.For Dubai: shared taxis from the airport cost AED 75–100/seat; private taxis AED 200–350 (90–120 min). Rental car desks are in the arrivals hall. The new terminal (Terminal A opened 2023) handles most Etihad flights; confirm which terminal for ground transport.

Hyper-arid desert climate on the Arabian Gulf coast. Summers (June–September) are extreme at 38–47°C with very high humidity. Outdoor exposure is extreme in July and August. Ground handling and ramp operations are affected by heat protocols. Haboob (sandstorm) events reduce visibility and may cause ground stops.

Winter (December–February) is the peak travel season at 18–27°C with clear skies and minimal disruption risk. The airport almost never sees rain. When rain does occur (typically December–February), local drainage infrastructure can briefly flood access roads. Overall, AUH is one of the most operationally consistent major hubs globally.
