Amsterdam to Visby (AMS–VBY) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Dutch passport holders enter Sweden freely as fellow EU and Schengen citizens. No visa, no border control on flights from the Netherlands, no time limit on stays. A valid Dutch passport or national ID card is all you need. There is no immigration queue on intra-Schengen flights, so you walk straight from the gate to baggage claim.

Direct flights from Amsterdam to Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) take about 2 hours on KLM, SAS, and Transavia. Amsterdam to Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT) runs about 1 hour 45 minutes. Sweden uses the Swedish krona (SEK), trading at roughly 11.2 SEK per EUR 1. Card payments work everywhere, and Sweden is one of the most cashless countries in the world. Many shops and restaurants do not accept cash at all. A Visa or Mastercard is enough for the entire trip.

No mandatory vaccinations. The Arlanda Express train runs from ARN to Stockholm Central Station in 20 minutes, costing SEK 299 (about EUR 27) one-way. Cheaper options include the Flygbussarna airport coach at SEK 129 (about EUR 12) taking 35 to 45 minutes, or commuter rail (pendeltag) at SEK 165 combined with the SL access card. For stays beyond 3 months, register with the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) for a personal number (personnummer).

Intercity and Sprinter trains run directly to Schiphol Plaza (the station is inside the terminal) from Amsterdam Centraal every 10–15 minutes (15 min, €5.70). The Intercity Direct from Rotterdam takes 43 minutes (€17.40 with supplement). Trains from The Hague take 35–45 minutes.

Taxis from central Amsterdam cost €35–50 and take 20–35 minutes. Highway A4 is frequently congested during morning rush. Bus 397 runs from Amsterdam Leidseplein to Schiphol (30 min, €5.50) for a cheaper landside alternative.
