Amsterdam to Cork (AMS–ORK) — Airlines, Schedules & Connections

Dutch passport holders enter Ireland freely as EU citizens. No visa, no time limit on stays. Bring your Dutch passport or national ID card. Ireland is in the EU but not in the Schengen area (it uses the Common Travel Area with the UK instead), so expect a passport or ID check on arrival from the Netherlands. This is a quick document scan, not a full immigration interview.

For stays beyond 3 months, no registration is required for EU citizens in Ireland (unlike many other EU countries). You have the automatic right to live and work. To access services like banking or healthcare, get a PPS number (Personal Public Service Number) from a local Intreo centre, which takes about 2 weeks. EU citizens qualify for public healthcare under the same terms as Irish residents.

Direct flights from Amsterdam Schiphol to Dublin run about 1 hour 45 minutes on KLM, Aer Lingus, and Ryanair. Cork and Shannon also have connections through London or other hubs. Ireland uses the euro, same as the Netherlands, so no currency exchange needed. No mandatory vaccinations. Dublin's Leap card (EUR 5 deposit) works on buses, DART rail, and Luas trams. Ireland drives on the left side, opposite to the Netherlands. Rental cars are widely available but book early for summer travel when demand peaks.

Intercity and Sprinter trains run directly to Schiphol Plaza (the station is inside the terminal) from Amsterdam Centraal every 10–15 minutes (15 min, €5.70). The Intercity Direct from Rotterdam takes 43 minutes (€17.40 with supplement). Trains from The Hague take 35–45 minutes.

Taxis from central Amsterdam cost €35–50 and take 20–35 minutes. Highway A4 is frequently congested during morning rush. Bus 397 runs from Amsterdam Leidseplein to Schiphol (30 min, €5.50) for a cheaper landside alternative.
