Ethiopian passport holders need a visa to enter China. Apply at the Chinese embassy in Addis Ababa. The single-entry tourist visa (L visa) costs USD 60 and is valid for 30 days. Double-entry costs USD 80. Processing takes 4 to 5 business days for standard service. Express processing (2 to 3 days) costs an extra USD 20.

Required documents include a completed application form, a recent passport photo with white background, passport with at least 6 months validity and 2 blank pages, round-trip flight booking, proof of hotel reservations for each night of your stay, and a detailed travel itinerary. If staying with someone in China, you need an invitation letter from them plus a copy of their Chinese ID.

China has transit visa exemptions (24-hour, 72-hour, or 144-hour) for certain airports and nationalities. Ethiopian passport holders are eligible for the 144-hour transit visa-free policy at selected airports including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou if transiting to a third country. You must hold a confirmed onward ticket departing within the time limit and stay within the designated area.

Metro Line 2 runs from the airport to central Zhengzhou and Zhengzhou East Station (high-speed rail hub) in 30–40 minutes for CNY 20–25. Taxis and DiDi depart from designated stands outside arrivals; fares to the city centre are CNY 70–120. Airport bus routes serve multiple hotel and transport hubs across the city.Zhengzhou is a major high-speed rail node with frequent connections to Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Wuhan from Zhengzhou East Station. Rental car desks are in the arrivals hall.

Humid continental climate. Summers (June–August) are hot and humid at 28–36°C with heavy rainfall; flooding and severe thunderstorms are genuine risks and can disrupt ground operations. Winters (December–February) are cold and dry at −4 to 5°C, with occasional snow and freezing fog causing de-icing delays.

Zhengzhou is prone to extreme weather events, including the historic July 2021 floods. Spring and autumn are mild and pleasant. Sandstorms can occur in spring, occasionally reducing visibility at the airport.
